help, having bad rear end problem.
hey guys, a couple weeks after i ran my car at the local dragstrip i have been having a serius issue with something in the rear of the car. when i get on the gas now i hear (and feel) a really loud slam right under the rear seats of the car. it is so loud that it scarred the s*** out of me the first time it happend.
can anybody give me some advice as to what this problem could be? thanks for reading my thread, any help would be greatly greatly appriciated, thank you!

wouldn't the "slam" be like right under me if it was the tranny mount? its making the noise back by the rear tires, and man it is so loud it sounds like lifting up a cinderblock 5 feet in the air and dropping it on your driveway. I dont know too much about this kind of stuff, thanks for the input man i appriciate it alot.
O i forgot to add this, my buddy said it could be the U-joint, is that a possibility also? thanks again

could be the rear end has issues. better get under there and have a look and see what u can see. should be able to see if the trans mount is broken. check the tourque arm bushing at the front and the mount at the rearend. does the car slow, want to stop, or act like a gear inside the rear is jaming.
The torque arm from the rearend comes forward and mounts to the tail of the transmission. Beating hard on the car can eventually rip the trans mount apart, and then the torque from the rearend lifts the tail of the trans and slams it up into the tunnel. Since the trans mount is the weak link in that whole setup, I'm fairly positive that's what you're experiencing.
You have three options...
1) Replace the mount with another stock rubber mount, and keep changing it every time it rips apart. (your "slam indicator" will tell you when it's torn)
2) Replace the mount with a urethane one which has an interlock that prevents any further mount separation. You would have to live with a little more vibration in the cabin as craby said. But you'll have to decide which is more annoying to you, some vibration or changing mounts.
3) Install a remote frame mounted torque arm bracket which takes the whole lifting load off the transmission and puts it on the frame.

Option 3 sounds the most expensive...I'm going with that one!
RideallDay: The stock trans mount is a pretty common point of failure on our cars, especially if you're driving it hard. It's a cheap, easy replacement. Hop under the car and check out the mount to see if it's separated. If it's not, come back to us with more details and we'll try to further help you out.
