Not common issue with the 4th gens. I would not worry too much about a used one. I can not remember any failed ones or many posts about failed ones and I have been hanging out here for 10 years.
I know with my 67 It sat for 6 years and the switch did not work. I just turn it on and off a dozen times to knock off the dirt and corrosion and its fine now.
