Default harsh shifting

I just bought a 98 camaro with 80k miles on it. I start noticing that whenever I put it on drive I can feel the trans grabbing causing the car to shoot forward a little bit even I'm pushing the brakes. And when im driving the shifts from 1 to 2 is more noticeable. I checked the trans fluid and seemed fine. What could be the problem?

what rpm are you idling at? im thinking the accumilator valve may be the issue. go here and about half way down the page at part#18a and 20e. read what its saying. does it match whats goin on with you.

that idle seems too high if its at 1000. should be about 750 to 800. have you had it scanned for codes?

thats about right for idle. im still thinkin its a trany problem or maybe torque converter. i would go talk to a good trany shop and see what they say.

Your shooting forward issue would be from having too high of an idle. The noticeable 1-2 shifts might be right, if a previous owner had some special work done to the trans, or even simply installed a Vette servo. The trans in my Vette has a Vette servo (what a coincidence), and the 1-2 shifts are very noticeable and crisp.

one of the people i talked to said i need an engine bracket. but if its the engine bracket all the shift should be noticeable rather than only 1 - 2 which makes sense about the vette servo. i gotta go under to confirm.

You're not going to know if you have a different servo unless you go through the trouble of removing it so you can compare to a stock one. You're going to need a new o-ring to do that, as you have to destroy the old one to get the servo cover out. But if the servo cover looks nice and clean, and the rest of the trans is all sludged up, you could assume (careful there) the servo may have been changed. Another thought, your 1-2 shifts are "more noticeable". Are they so noticeable that you hear and feel a banging on the floor? That can mean a torn tranny mount letting the tail of the trans lift up and bang on the tunnel.

I, myself, was thinking it may be a tranny mount.
