Handbrake indicator
Hi guys (and gals)
I've searched for this issue but I couldn't find a similar problem. Anyways, I've got a 96 3.8 base model I've been working on. I bought the car last summer with 194k miles on it for the pristine body it had, installed a remanufactured 3800 in it. Runs perfectly sound, and I am going though all the nooks and crannies cleaning the interior and keeping everything a pretty stock appearance, but plan on doing a few upgrades here and there such as replacing old incandescent dash lamps with white LED's, etc.
Anyways my problem involves the handbrake. As far as I can tell it is working correctly as a brake, because it has decent pressure when pulling back, and I feel the car steady itself on a slope. However, the "Brake" indicator lamp in the dash has quit lighting recently. It does come on during the "light test" when the car is started, but it doesn't seem to respond to the handbrake anymore. It used to, since I bought the car up to about 4 days ago. Should I take it as a warning, or do you think a sensor has failed/dirty contacts, etc?

The sensor could be loose. Mine does that every now and then. Just pop the peice with the ash tray and shifter boot up put your hand in there by the hand brake and wiggle the sensor. It's got a blue with a white strip wire going to it. Another way to test if it's the sensor is at night with the lights off and the hand brake up start the car and if the headlights come on then your sensor isn't working. If they stay off your bulb is burnt out.
