Engine swap. Doable? Realistically?
I have been part of this swap and unless you have some good skillz in the shop and both cars sitting side by side to do this swap I would not recommend doing it. My friend did it with his 96 3800, because his 2000 Z28 got totaled and the insurance paid it off plus a little more. He bought the car back from ins. and stripped both cars to the chassis. I posted on the V6-V8 thread about the adventure go read about it there.

Everyone was a noob at one time. Go to my bike forum and start asking about putting a hayabusa motor on a ninja 250 and you'd get flamed, too.
The difference is just that that would be stupid, but with the Camaro, everything looks to be the same, so it would seem acceptable to think that it would be not only doable, but common. That's all.

It is common on all generations but 4th and 5th. These cars are built around the power train, unlike the rest where the power train was just about the same V6 L6 or V8 just a few sensors in different locations. It is the same with most any car from the mid 90's up to today and then some.
Yes we were all noobs at one time or another but some of us came in with different knowlege. By the time I joined this forum I had already helped with the engine swap and also done some of the research into it to see what it would take. I read the same info we are giving you here today. Now my first post here was about repairing the BCM, I made that post because I had just done the job on the 96 Camaro that got the engine swapped to it. Apparently the wreck the car got into broke the solder joints free on the large relay.
Ok so how about putting a Hayabusa engine in a Smart Car? I hear that you quadruple the HP and keep the same mileage.

as us noobs go, i had the disadvantage of other sites referencing the "unbolt the engine, lift the car, slide new motor under, lower car" sites.. which of course i now can't find in my browser.
there were 3 or 4 that i had looked through that sure made the camaro look like it was a blank canvas, just waiting for a big, brooding powerplant to be slapped in. that whole "not believe everything you see" rule should have come to my mind.
thanks for the info tho guys!
