Engine swap. Doable? Realistically?
Hi,
As i've posted, I just bought a 3.4 5 speed camaro, and have been figuring out what I'd like to do with it. since I got it for $250, and it runs as well a drives, I'm pretty open on options, as I don't have much in the car.
It seems to run good, but I just wondered what the possibilities are of swapping the engine and trans to make it an lt1/6speed.
Obviously, there would have to be some things changed like the instrument cluster and all, but beyond that, is there any reason this shouldn't be a pretty direct switch, especially since the only differences between the V6 and z28 seem to be engine and tranny?
I figured there would be many stickies and stuff on the topic, but for some reason I'm not finding any, which causes me to be a little pessimistic...
worse case scenario, I could spend another $250 on cleanup and tuning this one up, and then probably sell it for $1500, and be $1000 closer to a Z...

as i told you in your first thread,,, dont think you can easily change the motor to a v8 or a 3.8. you would need to change so many things you will need a donor z28 car to get parts from. so yah you would be better served fixing and selling this one and look for a good z28.
Do a search in the V6 section. There are a couple of threads about swapping a V6 to a V8. The general consensus is that it would be cheaper to sell the V6 and get the V8.
FYI, there is a lot more than a simple engine/tranny swap involved in your project. You will have to replace just about everything in the drive train as well as most of the electronics and wiring harnesses to make it work.
....I see that Craby beat me to it....

There is a sticky in the v6 section V8-V6 swap. It starts out as a joke but there is a lot of info in there including a list of the parts needed.
Well, my gf has decided she really likes the camaro, and wants me to teach her how to drive it. I should mention that she's a Ford girl, and currently drives an 07 Mustang GT. Automatic, of course. Maybe I'll switch her over...
95 Chevy.
And idk, I'm just going on what she's said. Yeah, the Mustang is a nicer car than the camaro, maybe she just likes it cuz its green, idk. She's 20.
She also likes my 03 Explorer cuz its high, even though it's got dents all over it, and more miles than a 2003 has any reason to have, and hates the 07 Cobalt because it's "a girl car".

I have been part of this swap and unless you have some good skillz in the shop and both cars sitting side by side to do this swap I would not recommend doing it. My friend did it with his 96 3800, because his 2000 Z28 got totaled and the insurance paid it off plus a little more. He bought the car back from ins. and stripped both cars to the chassis. I posted on the V6-V8 thread about the adventure go read about it there.
