hey guys im trying to get the most MPG out of my 3.8 daily. i was wondering if swapping out my 2 piece drive shaft for a aluminum ls1 one would increase my gas millage. it did help with my 97ws6 and i gave my old 1 piece stock steel one to my cuisin who has a 99 camaro (also stock with 2 piece) and hes reported beter gas milage and beter aceloration. i just want to know if anyone else has.

It can't hurt, but I don't think I would spend the money on one solely for that purpose. I weighed mine when I went from a stock one-piece steel (16 lbs.) to an aluminum (12 lbs.) in my 96. Spun weight is spun weight, and more robs h.p. The difference in mileage between one-piece shafts isn't going to be that great, not enough to warrant buying an aluminum shaft just because. But, you're spinning more than 16 lbs. with the two piece, so you would probably notice more of a change. Still, financial payback on saved gas isn't going to happen overnight.

Well then...if you can get it cheap that's a different story.
The only thing I've ever heard about the two-piece driveshaft, is it's that way because of extra vibration dynamics the v6 can put out. The center bearing/pillow block can act like a dampener, until it goes bad that is. I haven't heard of anybody having any problems changing over to a one piece driveshaft, and if I had one I'd be tempted to as well.

well, if it does give me problems worse comes to worse i'll remove it and reinstall the 2 peace thing. only thing i can tell you is the center bearing is really ****ing heavy. no joke. weights almost as much as the dam T5 when i helped a freind do his clutch. the aluminum drive shaft i used on my WS.6 was from a third gen and i didn't feel any vibration from it. on the stock steel i did feel some at around 60-65 but then its good before and after. thanks for the help, my dad is building a 68 Z28 with a lt1 4l60e. well its on puased due to funding.
