Default 2-piece drive shaft question

I bought a 95 Camaro V6 for my son. The car was in need of repair, last owner thinks the transmission went out. When I looked at the car, I only verified it wasn't the rear end by looking at the rear drive shaft connection, not realizing it had a 2 piece drive shaft. Now that I have removed the drive shaft, I need to know if it can be disengaged between the halves or if thy should always be locked by a pin, coupling, etc. I haven't removed the center boot yet, wanted to know if anyone has a drawing or can tell me how the halves are linked. Is it possible to pull the spline out in the center connection, or it is most likely broke? What are the chances it was only the drive shaft and not the transmission? The center support bearing was worn through at the rubber housing, offering very little support.

Thanks in advance for any help.

They usually require a press to disassemble and reassemble. I personally have never worked with the Camaro 2 piece line but I have on old chevy trucks. You may want to ask your local machine shop.

I would just toss it and find yourself a 98+ aluminum 1 piece driveshaft.

Great info guys. But anyone know if the 2 piece shaft should always be engaged, or can you disconnect it within the "CV joint" boot? I can twist the 2 halves in opposite directions no matter if I push them together or pull them apart.

Thanks again.

sounds like your driveline is busted, better get a one piece. pretty much any 4th gen will fit, aluminum or steel.

No these should not freewheel at all ever...unless they are broken. Ok any 4th Gen Camaro driveline will work in your car.
