aluminum drive shaft
i was looking at getting an aluminum drive shaft, but i read the it may not be good to lower weight from the drive train, what are the benefits of getting it ? will it transfer power to the wheels better than the stock one ?

RE: aluminum drive shaft
Not big performance item to add horsepover, just reduces rotating mass in the drivetrain, It is a nice upgrade, I have one on my car. 1Le 2 3/4 dia & LS1 4 dia are both good choices, just do not pay over $150 for one.[sm=gears.gif]

RE: aluminum drive shaft
It is lighter. When building a race car, shaving weight as much as possible is your goal. It will help transfer the power more efficently. Aftermarket drive shafts are held to a tighter balancing specs.

RE: aluminum drive shaft
The key is unsprung weight. Half of a driveshafts weight is unsprung ( weight not held up by the springs ) Racers go ga-ga for unsprung weight be cause it's an 8 to 1 ratio for removing weight. IE: 1 pound of removed unsprung weight equals 8 pounds of sprung weight. Important stuff.
