Door won't open!

Door won't open!
I just bought my 93 Z28 last week. The car is in decent condition except the passenger door won't open at all, from the inside or outside. I knew about this before I bought the car, but thought it would be an easy fix. I got the door panel mostly off from the inside so I have a pretty good view of what is going on but no idea how to fix it. The rod that actuates the door latch mechanism is moving properly when the door handle is pulled. It moves up and down as it should. However, the latching mechanism for whatever reason is not actuating to release the door. I don't know how this mechanism works because it looks to be internal. Anyone know how this works and how I can move the latching mechanism so I can open the door?

RE: Door won't open!
That's the thing, though. The rod is working just fine. Everything is working fine except that little mechanism that houses the device that moves up/down to release the door when the handle is pulled. I don't know what it's called, so I attached a picture. The picture is a random image I found on google. For some reason, when the rod moves up to actuate this mechanism, nothing happens. The rod works properly, it's this mechanism which is malfunctioning, and I don't know how to operate it manually.

RE: Door won't open!
Go to autozone or whatever stores near you get some of this ****, ITS THE BEST , spray the heck outta it, the you see that latch on top???? stick a screwdriver in there and push it down then try pushing it back up, it may just be serverly gummed up this **** will open it up and clear it out.
That latch in there on top of that hole is what comes down and catches on your door pin's and keeps the door closed, it may be stuck in the up poistion or the down position below its normal distance (kinda like hyperextended), give it a shot and tell me how it comes out.
