clutch problems

Well first thing to think about is cheep and good quality don't go together. Ever heard the saying you get what you paid for? I suggest a good quality clutch that isn't from a parts store. I put an Autozone clutch in my 92 celica, went through the proper break in procedure, and burned it up in like 5k miles. I put a luk clutch in my 3.4l, never broke it in, went straight to spinning the tires and almost 20k later it was still good and strong.

My understand of the LT1 6speed you replace the whole system. Replacing just one part is a waste of effort and almost always leads to other issues. The system is only good for about 10 year and most do not make it 100,000 miles. Most of the aftermarket stuff is junk and you can buy the whole system for around $200 from GM. This is going off a memory. I was told the one on my doner driveline was replaced and it has a single GM part number on it.

With the hydraulic system the ls1 uses the slave is inside the bellhousing and separate parts can be replaced. I just noticed today fluid coming in between the motor and transmission. Its the slave cylinder. And when i said cheap and good i guess i ment best bang for buck.

My bad I was not wearing my glasses and the the post said 96.
Be prepared to replace the clutch. If the fluid got on the clutch disk itself I would not put that back in. The clutch material tends to absorb the fluid and release it a little at a time. This adds a nice lubrication to your clutch under hvy load and will make it grab under light load. There is no way I know of to clean it. Of course replacing the whole clutch is the way to go but if budget is an issue just replace the clutch plate and sand the Pressure plate and flywheel real good.

ok, so I want a kit with the pressure plate because the stock one is in there right now and if its apart i should upgrade it. I have found a few kits but dont know what would be the best choice.

What is the best bang for the buck and is there any others I should consider?
Thanks
