Clutch Going? What...
..think you? When I first bought the car, (last August), there was always a faint grinding rattling noise when the car was running. As soon as the clutch was pushed in, or the car was put in gear, it would go away. In the last few days, the noise has gotten worse. Now you can hear it in the first three gears, but it still goes away when the car is sitting and the clutch is pushed in. Top two gears you hear nothing.
Think it's the clutch going? Or maybe just the throwout bearing? Car is nearing 100,000 miles, of which I have put on 6,000, most of which have been fairly hard.
Have a road trip to Albera/Montana coming up, just don't think I will have time in the next three weeks to get to it. Anyone had something like this? I can record the noise probably. Is it a big job doing the clutch? On my trucks I can do a complete clutch job in 6-7 hours R&R.

Does the noise change if you put light pressure on the clutch? That would be a big indicator it is the release bearing. Noise that are only occur in 1st-3rd gear could be related to the front bearing on the counter gear shaft.
