chip?

Default chip?

i hear people say all the time that they have a chip in there car. isnt that just a tune? ive never seen a chip that plugs into a car to make it faster which is what u think when u first here it.

History lesson. Back in the day you had to replace the PROM (programmable read only memory) I am not sure is any 4th gens have proms. I have not checked my 93 yet. I am pretty sure the 94 are programmable and do not need a flashed prom.

If you bough a "chip" you where buying a new prom. You are correct it is a new tune.

Now some manufactures have taken advantage of the term and the publics lack of knowledge and offered "Chips" that hook inline with the throttle position sensor. These are scams. They do nothing.

damn man u know ur stuff. im putting used heads on the maro after the valve spring break. and hoping the piston is still fine. ill find out tomorrow after i take the head off.

93 has a memcal prom that is a chip. last year for em.
