Is the Camaro a reliable car?
New problem!!!! It seems everyone I talk to does not want me buy a Camaro. They say I need something more practical... and something I can drive in the winter(I live in Nebraska btw). They also say that my insurance will be almost $300 a month! Whats that about?! Now I don't know what to do.
My insurance is $120 a month and I'm 18. Whoever told you that is full of s***
As for winter, get an extra set of wheels and put snow tires on them to switch out when the snow hits. Problem Solved

A Camaro is one of the best bargains out there. You get power, comfort, reliability... all for a decent price. You keep all of that for minimal $$$ in repairs. Sure insurance is more than an 86 Civic but that's about the only downside. But wouldn't you rather pay a slight premium for a Camaro?
And just remember, a lot of cars you wouldn't think of are classified as "sports cars" by the insurance companies. Certain forms of the Civic and even the Grand Prix command the same premium.
Best I can offer is that you pick a few cars you like, take them to the insurance company(ies) and evaluate your options.

i have a 95 with a 3.4 and my only issue is i blew my headgasket @ 109xxx but got it repaired and no further issues so far... i have a 98 blazer and my camaro and pay 175 for full coverage insurance on both and as for winter i agree just get some snow tires and weight on the back and call it good and yes traction control does help, and i recommend a manual over an auto(wish i wouldve waited a week to buy mine cause i couldve got a 96 with a 5 speed for the same price
) but im happy overall even though its not a v8
Dude, I'm 18, I have a 99 Z28 6spd and a 96 Civic Coupe with a motor swap. Full coverage on both cars is only 200 per month for me. And out of the Camaro alone I have plenty of power, fun, dependability, Recognition, Gas Mileage(28-30MPG!), and it's just plain awesome! You can't go wrong with one!
i call bull **** 30mpg with a camaro! but anyways they suck in the winter dont listen to that ****. i have three friends that have camaros and they all dont drive them in the winter cause they suck. and yes i used to own one. how much do u want to spend is the question? then compare what u can get for the money.
A camaro/firebird can be fine in the winter, you just have to use common sense and take your time learning to drive it in those conditions. I drove through 6 winters in MO with all my f-bodies and never had a problem, didn't have winter tires either, just all weather tires.
I would call your insurance company and ask them, don't listen to what other people are telling you, find out for yourself. I consider facts/hear-say from other people lies until I confirm it for myself.
And on another note I got 1st, 2nd, and 3rd chirps today in my car. Not bad for a 15 year old car with almost 200K miles with stock internals.
