i would say get what you can ,or find a good used engine ,but your better off to take the loss now learn from it move on it happens to us all ,then down the road shop for the deal ,dont let guys fool you when they say its a camaro ,you could have a z28 for what you got in it,the 3800 cars dont sell for that much when you shop ,an even travel to get the right one,good luck an come hear when you find another one ,find someone that knows about cars you can trust an bring them with you ,thing about LA to many fly by night dont trust people ,go out of LA for anything you buy next time ,find the old couple that took care of the car when shopping,one owners are the better choise most times

my radiator cap was rubber, the tech had a metal one installed and said that was 1 of many problems for my coolant leak. cooling system on a 4th gen. is placed in a very bad area in terms of auto shop Labor repair costs. i would replace your cracked radiator cap with a metal one instead of the standard rubber plastic issued 4th gen stock radiator cap.

sorry i was unclear. the rubber or plastic tends (under deterioration heat and stress) to crack which is 1 of many problems that can account for a coolant leak. a metal radiator cap helps prevent coolant leaking a lot better. so yea, i would get a metal radiator cap. autoshops usually have one on hand. and they work better and resist heat.

sorry for these fragments, im super busy: * but Original Poster. Rubber radiator caps should be be replaced with heat resistant Metal Caps which auto shops usually often have and are made in Mexico. I have them and they help prevent coolant leaks. see my other reply.
