Building my ss
Hey guys just had a quick question, i want to put heads and cam on my car, my mecanic told me today that it is not worth putting $3000 heads on my motor that instead he reccomended that i have my heads ported and polished and he would build me my own cam to my specifications, all this with parts for $3000 then the tune would be 300 withanother guy what do you guys think? let me get your feedback
for 1350 u can have one of the best port your heads put bigger valves and springs in and get a cam that does what u want.

said it was a ss so i figured it had a ls so i thought a ls1 le2 heads would be a good way to go.
I honestly haven't heard much from Lloyd about the LS1 stuff. He seems to be the king of LT1, but I never really hear people going for LS1 items from him. If he keeps the same quality with LS1 that he does with LT1 I'm sure they're going to be a great part though.
To answer your question more directly, you can usually get better numbers for cheaper if you go for the port/polish. After market heads will usually cost more and not flow as well, but they also usually have extra material in all the right places for future porting. That said, most people will never reach the point that aftermarket heads allow you to port. I don't want to suggest that you shouldn't trust your mechanic, but porting heads and designing a cam is pretty serious business. It's something that takes a lot of testing and refinement to get it right. I would go with someone who has proven results from their heads and cams. I know Dragon Race Engineering has some amazing results with LSx stuff, and Lloyd Elliott has some amazing results with LT1 stuff. I would look into both of them and see what you can get.
