Default building a 454

Hey everyone! well I just got a 454 (unknown casting dates) for free from a family friend. The motor has been sitting for a couple of years, but it has been covered and taped closed inside of a garage. So while its torn down and getting cleaned I want to make some changes. first it doesnt have an intake manifold, carb or headerssoI know those will need to be bought, second i'm going to build my own headers soI either am going to have flanges made by a friend who does waterjetting or ifI can find a good set of used headers cut the flanges off and use those. also I'd like to change the heads http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...mp;showValue=1

What i need your help on is the intake, carb also what rods, pistons and crankI should use my budget is $3600 this does not include the heads above, if you have some better heads you know of my budget is $6000 for parts onlyno machine work.

this motor is being put in my 68' RS/SS that is used for drag racing only aka its a trailor queen (for now). Trans is a turbo 400 rear is a dana 60 with 4.11's

your gonna have to decide weather this is going to be a track only car, or have decent street manners in the future. Also how much power do you want... stroke it? With aluminum heads you can safely run 11-1 on pump gas, if you want to run pump. For a carb, id call prosystems up when you have everything said and done and for $700 they can custom make you a carb to your application. Give a little more info on your intended use with it, drag only, nitrous, etc. Good luck

well I'm thinking of running the stock crank which I've heard is good till 600HP, I'm hoping to get into the 10's with the stock crank. Right now the car is for drag only however I want to make it street legal, so decend street manners and pump gas. also I don't care about how loud it is. My budget has also changed $6000 + whatever I can get for my 390HP 350.

Well i've decided to go a diffrent route,I tried giving the 454 back to my friend and he said to just sell it and keep the cash. So thats what i'm gonna do. With that cash i'm gonna build a 450+ WHP 350, then spray the hell outtait on the 1320 (not really only a 150 shot), mean while i'll build a LS2 that makes 550 N/A for the streetand 800+ with spray on the 1320.

My basic plan for the 350 is really simular the the 350 that was build in the May issue of Super Chevy, diffrence being i'll be using 041 heads instead of EQ's and I'm considering getting the DSS pistons that where used.

Thats cool that your gonna work your 350 but there is nothing better then a big block. There are less and less of them around each year. If I were you man I would try to hang on to the 454 if finacially possible this way down the road you can build it up. The price only goes up, and getting the block for free. I mean its win, win for you.
