Default Brakes Problems

So I bought my new camaro about 2 months ago now and before I bought I took it into a GM mechanic to get it checked out. Everything looked good except they said I needed new brake pads especially on the front left because of some squeeking noises. So to make a long story short I took it in to get all the pads changed and about a week later the left front starts doing it again and get's even worse because it's now pulling hard to the left when I hit my brakes and it pull and rattles the car on the freeway. Also my entire front left rim is coated in brake dust. Any ideas of what i could be before I go spend 400 bucks to get it fixed?

Default RE: Brakes Problems

Sticky caliper, blockage in the brake hose in that side, sticky caliper slide bolts...

Those are the things I would look for first.

It sounds mostly like there is a blockage in the brake hose that acts like a check valve, it allows fluid to go past it when you push the pedal, but not back when you release the pedal, thus retaining pressure in the brake caliper and not allowing it to release like it is supposed to.

Edit: Loaded front caliper (Cardone brand, with pads) at Partsamerica.com (Checkers, Advanced Auto, Schuck's and a couple others) is $75, unloaded is $47

A complete set of slide pins/bolts is $23, and that does the entire car.

Front brake hoses are around $30 apiece.

Possibly the same thing that Squisher posted above. Also, check to make sure that you torqued the wheel lug nuts all the same. I have been told by people who do brakes professionally that if all the wheel lug nuts are not evenly torqued, it can sometimes warp the rotor and cause "shimmy" at highway speeds. Also, make sure you did not knock off a wheel weight when removning or installing the wheel after the brake job.

i looked at all my wheel weights and i only had 1 to begin with but ive always had one and it drove prefect. but now that i changed the pads this is happening. someone said it could be the old rotor from the build up of rust on the outer and inner edges of the rotor that are grabbing my new pads and making them pull side to side but i still dont know what the vibration and wump wump sound is around 55mph im going to take my wheels back off today and check it out again but i dont see anything wrong

sounds about right, blocked brake hose (rubber part) or caliper sticking. get a friend and bleed the brakes till you start seeing clear. see if that helps first.

While you have it jacked up, spin the hub and see if you feel any rough spots, could have a wheel bearing causing the wump wump sound.

my pads had around 6 months left on them and i changed them and did everything right i dont understand where i could of messed up at. is it possible to **** up a bearing or brake line by a 30 minute brake pad change? all the problems seem to come after about 15-20 minutes of driving at higher speeds

Some days, I can do a whole lot of damage in 30 minutes! Seriously, I don't know, just take it all back apart and double check everything and as you put it back, spin the the hub to ensure you don't have anything dragging. One other thing, I believe it is possible to get the rotor not exactly centered on the wheel hub. When you take the wheel off, look and see how much space is around each lug as it comes through the rotor.
