I am feeling my brake pedal depress to the floor way more than it should. I changed pads and rotors about two to three months ago and didn't have a problem. I started to notice a small leak of fluid towards the back left side of the car. I checked my master cylinder reservoir to see if there was adequate brake fluid and it has definitely decreased. I'm not able to check my brake lines tonight but tomorrow I should be able to get under the car to find out more.

I really have a feeling it is my brake lines, are there any tips/tricks you guys could give me to help me in this process if I do have to change them? I've never changed my brake lines before and this would be the first time I have attempted so. I have a friend who is good at mechanics help me, but on the off chance he can't, what are some important things I need to know.

 

find the leak first. could be caliper piston is leaking, rubber brake line, steel brake line. first two are not to hard to change.

 

If your pads/shoes are contaminated with brake fluid dont try to clean them simply replace them. This is prolly the most important part of the car and must not be short-cutted at all. If the wheel cyl, caliper or brake hose is leaking then replace the offender, fill the master cyl. and bleed them until the petal no longer feels spongy. If you have a brake hose that feeds both sides of the rear then bleed both sides, if your brake hose only feeds one side then you only need to bleed that one side.

If you are not finding any leaking fluid anywhere then the symptoms you discribe also can be caused by a bad MC and or Booster. Replace and bleed the entire system.
