if you're drag racing, there is no other axle to consider except for a 9"

I personally, feel the S60 is better. It has the strength of the 9in without the power loss.

So in light of not starting another new thread. I just got my Service Engine Soon light the other night. Throwing codes P0172 and P0175. Says running rich. Im not sure with all these guys add ons as to what to do to fix this. And it smells like fumes all the time. Have a proper tune instead of the crap hand tuner he put on? And will it damage the car to drive it while running real rich?

It is helpful but it just means i have to take it somewhere since there 1000000 possible reasons for causing it to run rich.

To be honest, the 9 inch is cheaper, lighter, stronger and parts are WAY more common.

You can be into a fabricated 9" with a torque arm, 35 spline axles and a spool for less then an s60 and it will weigh 10-20lbs less then a 10 bolt, let alone an s60.

Plus gear changes are SO much easier with a 9 inch

Motor can be running rich but I also hear from alot of guys who run no cats that it smells more like gas all the time. Only a few shops in Oregon I know that so tuning on ls1 camaros. Wongs in Vancouver is the best shop from what I read on ls1 tech.

I don't agree with the strength part. With the 9.75" ring gear it makes it quite stronger than the 9in, not much, but enough to warrant it. Also, prices as far as I've seen are roughly the same. I don't think he's gonna want a spool though, not on the street. Suppose with the 9in, he could have two sets, one with a spool and the other with a LSD.

To the OP: Running real rich is better than running real lean. But expect power loss and your fuel economy to go down. Also, the unburnt fuel will build up carbon deposits on the piston, valves, and spark plug. The only thing on the list I can see that'd cause it run rich would be the tune, but it may be other factors as well.

Ya i looked up Wongs. Im gonna give him a call and see about getting a tune. I have a dyno sheet sayin its puttin out 340 hp to the wheels but i feel like thats low for the amount of mods done but im not sure. That hand tuner he put on may be doggin it down some. Plus that may have been done before some other mods.

I was concerned about running rich hurting the motor but i cant imagine itd be too bad. Mpg wise all city i still get around 12 or 13 i think, and work is a mile and a half from my house.

Id like a cheaper route for an axle but i know 9 inch axles are very common and regearing is a breeze with em, but im undecided and have alot of time before i need to get one.
