I thought we were gonna make it through the month of November without some one asking this question as their first post!
Ok enough of me being a smart a$$
Welcome to the forums.
Check out the thread in the V6 forum about doing the very thing you are asking about. Having the engine is a good thing but you will need alot more than just the engine!! These cars are built around the power plant and just about everything in the car is either for V6 or V8. I would recomend hunting your local Craigslist ads for some one parting out a LT1 and picking up the whole car from him so you have a doner car. Brakes, fuel pump, K member, front suspension, antilock system, dash, dash wiring and quite a few other things are different. Even more parts are different if you are going to switch to an LS1. Hope this helps and remember to check out the thread in the V6 sticky list.

P.S. I have been involved in a 3.8L to LS1 swap.

This is the above mention thread. The first few pages do not have a lot of info but the rest do.

By motor mounts I hope you mean the whole K-member (AKA the frame). The V8 K-member is shaped different. Not only do you need a doner car it is worth it to find a doner car the same year as yours. This link is posted in the above thread but it explains all the things you need. The bottom of the page covers what you need if you get a diferent year. http://www.tacreationsusa.com/3_4_3_8_v6_to_lt1.htm
Make sure you dad understand what he is getting into. If your dad is like myself he use to everything GM being interchangable. Unless he has done a lot of work on 4th generation Camaros he has no idea what he is getting into. I stopped working as a pro in 1990. If someone had told everthing was going to change in 3 years I would have laughed at them. I am a dad and a former GM master tech and I would not want this project. With the cost of running V8 cars dropping to 2-3K it is simply not worth the 150-200 hours worth of work it takes to do this. You could buy a V8 with a blow head gasket and repair it for 1/2 the money and 1/3 of the work. Once you convert your car it will not be worth much. Converted car are not worth near what a Z28 is.
Finding a Z with a small amount of front end damage and swaping your front end on to it might be cheapest and best thing to do with your V6.

From what I understand, you need to replace the entire wire harness, computer and so much more that I predict your car will be on Craiglist under the heading "Project car....cheap" after you finally comprehend what you are up against. I thought about it too when my 3.8 blew, but I put another V6 in it and I'll buy a Z28 later and be done with it.
It's your car, but after researching the cost and difficulty, I found that neither I nor any garage or mechanic wanted anything to do with that kind of swap. If it was worth doing, more folks would have done it and sites would be dedicated to it.
If you do go through with it, post pics and let us know how long it takes and how much it ends up costing you.

Thats the problem. Diagram for what? You want a diagram for the V6 or the V8. What year? No one will have a diagram for a 95 V6 with a 96 V8 PCM in it. If you are just looking for a stock diagrams the factory manuals are your best bet.

Doing the swap is not bad if you have an ENTIRE running doner car. I cant stress the improtance of this one little thing. There is so much different between the V6 and V8 cars it is not funny. The actual unibody shell is the only thing that is the same between the cars, even of the same year. Ok maybe not only but just about. I would do it again with the availability of a 2 or larger car garage and both cars at the same time. Strip the V6 car to a bare shell and then remove the engine from the doner car. put engine aside and start moving everything from the doner car to the V6 car and spend about 100 or so hours doing the whole thing. that is if you have the right tools and no major parts like the K member or suspension are damaged.
