Default 93 Z28 ECM communication errot

Hope you guys can help. A little background on the car. Car had been sitting for a few years before i got it. Had an engine knock. Rebuilt motor and at startup abs and airbag light is on. I am unable to communicate with the ECM with a scanner tried a motus but get a communication failure. Now recently had a CEL come on and was able to jumper the pins and i believe it was a High res Optic fault with the ignition (sorry have to verify) has a brand new Optispark in it. But question is any tricks to getting a scanner to connect to try and clear the codes and actually see what is going on. In looking at the OBD1 plug I can not seem to find a wiring diagram that matches how it is wired. There is a larger gauge purple wire going into the plug in the middle of the bottom row. Car sat with a dead battery for a couple years also. Also I swapped Ecm's with a identical car and had the same codes

Here is a link to a free copy of a 93 Firebird manual. I am sure the diagram of the OBD1 connector is the same, as well as all of the ECM wiring.

I know the Actron CP9185 can handle the 93 but it has gone way up in price lately. It was selling for about $70 a few months ago, now it's more like $250 or more.

I have written a scan app for pc that you can download and use for free that now covers the 93. You would need an OBD1 12-pin cable and a pc. It's called Scan9495 and the link can be found here:

try using a different year or vehicle on the scanner, i had to use a 92 truck to get mine to connect. what code number did you get? abs needs a different scanner, i think also the airbag. to clear codes unhook battery, to clear all computer memories unhook both battery cables and hold together for a short time, 10-20 seconds. does it run?
