93 Camaro Driver Lock Switch Discontinued Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a 1993 camaro z28 with power locks and my drivers lock switch has been bad for a while. After installing a remote starter/ keyless entry system(which goes through the switch) I now have motive again to fix this switch.. The reason I didnt in the first place is that my local GM Dealer (murdock in Manhattan, KS) has told me that it is discontinued by both GM and Delco.
I took some ohm meter readings, and took the switch apart. The switch is actually pretty simple, but at the same time it is very precise, so I was unable to fix it.
I need to find a switch. Murdocks also tells me that switches from 94-96 are different than the 93's other than the yellow print. IS THIS TRUE?? If not I can switch the plastic with the print, I dont really care anyways I just want it to work for now..
Any ideas where to get one otherwise?
Thanks

Not sure but most 4th gen parts are interchangeable. I picked up a set of window switches for my 95 from advanced auto parts online. The one I got was not a delco one but works like a charm. I would suggest checking online and paying JC whitney a visit just in case. I do not think you would have a problem finding the switch online.
As always, a junkyard is a good place to find goodies.
I hope this helps.

The dealer is correct in that the 93 switches are different than later ones.
93 p/ns are 10402832 (driver) and 10402831 (passenger)
94-96 p/ns are 10402836 (driver) adn 10402835 (passenger)
97-02 switch p/ns are again different
I have no idea whether the difference between 93 and 94-96 switches is cosmetic but I do know that the 94-96 switches are still available because I bought a pair back in August. Pretty cheap @ less than $15 each retail.
FWIW the driver and passenger switches are interchangeable. The difference is which side the ribs are on vs the lock graphic. When I got my 94 the driver's side switch was broken and that was a major pain. I swapped driver's and passenger's switches and everything worked fine. You may want to do the same thing. THe hardest part is getting the switch out of the trim plate without breaking it or the plate. Everything is meant to snap *together* easily by hand *one time*. Getting things apart without breaking something is really pretty hard.
The GM parts catalog shows an AC-Delco p/n for the 93 switches as D1410D (driver) and D1411D (passenger) so you may be able to go that route through a local parts house. The AC-Delco p/n for later switches is not the same.

anytime there is a change in anything with a part the part number will also change. GM tells their part techs that even if you know another part will work you are not to tell the customer. Only the parts that are listed for their model/yr are acceptable. For example, I used to own a 2004 Avalanche without body hardware. This is the ones with the Silverado nose and doors. I like the 2006 Silverado Grille over the older ones. I go to GM and ask how much, they want my VIN to get me the correct one. I tell them I have an Avalanche and that I want the silverado grille. They say it will not fit and if I buy it I cannot return it if it does not fit. I found one in my local wrecking yard and buy it for $50, put it on my truck it fits perfectly! I go back to the Dealer and show the guy and he tells me about the GM rule about not selling parts that do not belong on vehicles from the factory even if they know the parts will work.
I sell parts too and I have made sales that would have walked out the door by selling my customers parts that I know will work even if they are not directly listed for that vehicle. Customer is happy, my boss is happy, I still have a job so I am happy too. Not all part guys are created equal.

1augapfel I believe is right, they are the same, other than cosmetics and they are cheap. You can look them up in the 1993-2002 manual. I believe Craby posted it some time back. If don't have it or you can't find it, PM me and I'll send it to you, it's a big PDF file

I ended up using the good passenger switch in the drivers side, and put the bad drivers switch in the passenger side.
For the bad switch that I put in the pass side, I cut off the +12v pin and wired the other 2 sets of pins together to make it work.
It looks normal and my keyless works again and so does the drivers side switch.
