Default 4L60E Questions

I have to get a new transmission for my 96 RS and was going to go to the junkyard. I found a list of cars that have the 4l60e and was wondering if the ones out of trucks and astro vans would fit right in or would I have to get it out of a passenger car.

I believe they have a different bell-housing, and possibly different gear ratios.

I think you will have to find one out of a F-body or vette man i am sure you could make one work but as said above the gearing will be different.

You need one from a rear wheel drive, 60 degree V6 car. The Astro van has a 90 degree 4.3 V6, which has the exact same bellhousing bolt pattern as a V8. It won't bolt to your engine.
And one from a vette won't work either, it's a V8.

The 3800 is a 90 deg motor? the 3.4 is a 60 deg. He needs a Tranny for a 96 or newer 3800. The 3800 and 3.4 have different bell housings. I am not sure about the computer controled shifting valves.

"Car-parts" Only lists the 1996 and 1997 Camaro and Firebird as fitting the 96
