Default 4L60e auto trans upgrades anyone??

Ok, i though GM may have made the running gear on the camaro a little better than they did, they make a brilliant ls1 engine and a gearbox made of chocolate!

What upgrades are best or ones that you have done to upgrade your trans? My head/cam package with 3600 stall should see me into high 11s (fingers crossed), but clearly the trans will just melt? are new clutchs and shift kits enough??

thanks

A 3600 stall? How good is your rearend? Just remember that the more you modify and strengthen the engine/trans combo, the further back the weak link in the drivetrain gets pushed. With a lot of stress and torque, something's wanting to give, and sometimes does.

Find a good tranny house that builds transmission and let them know the torque you want it to handle. They will sell you a package that will handle the torque you want. You do not want to pc meal upgraded parts. Whats the point upgrading you plantary gear set if your sun gear fails or add clutchs just to have your sun shell rip a part.

I have gone 11.4s on my RPM built stage 5 but i have seen guys go mid 10s with no problem they also offer services to upgrade your factory 4L60 or you can buy one of theres for about 2500 bucks.

thanks guys but my grandad is a mercedes mechanic and spealise in auto boxes so i think he'll do the rebuild, i just need parts. Gorn, cbr thanks for the info but remember i live in the UK and ive had some issues with useless tranny builders here when i needed a bmw box rebuilding so dont trust them with my auto out of a relativly rare american car here, i will look to see if there are some specialists but most want 3000 pounds, so about $5000 for a built box to rpm standards. Ill see how much rpm could ship a box for too, but $2500 is my head/cam package out of the window!

camaro69, yer i posted another thread regarding the rear end too, its all in the works. I really annoys me that gm made the drivetain parts just stong enough for the ls1

I may have to just cam for now and wait till everything detonates and i have enough money to do the rest! I still have a $700 yank stall to get

also wanted to ask if you guys with standard auto boxes can hold gears. Ie i can manually throw it in first at 40 and keep it the and it wont change and car will hit limiter, are all 4l60E trans like this??

I just read that the trans kit allows you to do this, but as far as im aware my box is stock?
