Default Installing Stage IV 4L60E/4L65E auto trans?

My 2001 Z28 (automatic) with Borla catback exhaust/pacesetter LT headers (no cats) has been slipping and getting progressively worse with shifting. I knew the transmission was failing and was saving my money. The other day I was doing 55 and had to pass someone to make the exit. The motor overevved to 5500 and the tranny shook and now any more than kissing the gas pedal makes it sound like a marble is dancing around in there. GM dealership will charge $2800 out the door for a brand new stock 4L60E. I dug around and found 2 very reputable F body performance shops who had comparable prices. I do not have the 4K required to do a T56 swap so I am going to go with a Stage IV RPM 4L60E/4L65E transmission rated for 500 rwhp. They claim this tranny is bulletproof and I will actually see better performance and gas mileage. $2665 out the door w a 6 month warranty. Everyone has told me my motor is not damaged but it has not been looked at. It has always gotten full synthetic oil etc. I truly believe I am making a sound choice for the car but I cant afford to be wrong or have anything wrong with the motor. Anyone have advice or comments? With tune my Camaro Dynos at 340HP

rpm are good trans i believe cbr had one in his turbo ta.

that price is pretty competative and i read the build spec and they seem good, however if you have plans for upgrading late make sure you get the best tranny you can, with ones with the 5 gear planetaries

have a look at:

z28 Pete, RPM motorsports in Garner NC is doing the installation. I would love to get a monster tranny with 5 planetary gears but i have to do some other work as well (deleting out front 02 sensor codes) and my budget just doesnt crack 3K. I am trying to learn all I can about my car. I have been a bit lazy up to this point but below is what RPM transmissions has listed as the upgraded specs for the tranny.

Our LEVEL IV automatic transmissions are recommended for cars up to 500 RWHP. After that, we recommend our LEVEL V.

All of our LEVEL IV automatic transmissions include:

Media blast transmission case
RPM sleeved input drum
RPM 3-4 clutch pack
RPM reinforced sunshell with collar and bearing
Heavy Duty double caged 29 element sprag
4L65E low roller clutch
Billet 4th gear servo
Transgo HD-2 shift kit
Corvette Servo
Wide 2-4 band
Updated aluminum accumulator piston
Bushing kit
new shift solenoids
new wiring harness
new GM valve body spacer plate
Seal & gasket kit
Filter
Set clutch and band clearances to our specifications
Each transmission is dyno-tested before shipping

Thanks for everyones input, helping me sleep at night until I drop off Z tonight and pick up tues or wed next week. Really hoping this does the trick and the car is more Driveable than ever. It is unfortunately my Daily Driver for 4-6 more months. 108k miles on it. I work really hard on keeping her taken care of and clean but, hey I only make so much money. I have picsup on the rides section. Its midnight blue metallic.

You are shipping your Maro to the UK? on less than 3k? wow good luck, I bet if your careful you can squeeze it. Enjoy those gas prices. Thanks on the ride. I was hoping to put 17" 5 spoke black/or racing white ZR1 rims on it but then comes the rubber and well now that were doing the tranny it will be april before that happens ;(
