Default 3rd brake light inop

94 Z28 3rd brake light on the rear spoiler not working but driver and passenger brake lamps are. I checked voltage at the 3rd brk lamp sockets and got no power. Do you know where the connection is between the 3rd brk and the rear brake lamps is? I hate taking off interior panels that may not need to be removed. Tnx

The first connection for the 3rd brake light is in the headliner, where the wiring for the hatch comes in the cabin. You made sure to check it with the pedal pressed, right?

You don't mention if your car is a convertible or coupe, so I'm going to assume it is a coupe. I've attached a drawing showing the electrical harness routing and where the rear third brake light connector is in the rear deck. You should be able to check for voltage at C420 between the yellow and black wires. If you do not find 12V between them, check for voltage between the yellow wire and a good body ground to verify the problem is not a broken wire or connection in the ground source to the light. If you still don't have voltage, you're going to have to trace the yellow wire back to the power source until you find the problem. As mentioned above, you're going to need someone to be applying the brakes when checking for voltage at the connector.
