2 Random Questions: 97' model
Okay, first question is. What is the SGR switch for that is located above the radio? My car didn't come with a manual and I tried to look online but couldn't find anything.
Second question. I removed all the stock speakers, and surprisingly the door panels were easy to remove/install. But, I noticed the door speakers only had 2 sets of terminals. When my aftermarket speakers arrive, which set of wires do I use, or does it matter? I've never seen 6.5" speakers have 2 sets of terminals. The backseat speakers didn't have them either.
Thanks.

mine has a 2nd gear start button in it.. its a 96 so it has a different interior than yours.
if thats what it is, then it puts your trans into 2nd gear so when you move from a stop youre in 2nd gear. it basically makes the wheels spin slower in order to help you gain control and not spin out in bad conditions
as for your radio, im clueless. ive never been into the 'car audio' scene and suprisingly its prolly the part of the car i know least about.. however i would look for red and black wires and see if the may the speakers sing you a sweet song!

OK first off like Mello said the switch is for Second Gear Start (SGS) This as far as I know was a V6 only option to help prevent wheel spin in slippery conditions. The LS1 does not spool up as quick so it is easier to control wheel spin, and most Z28s came with traction control which helps control wheel spin.
The front has 2 speakers per side. One is a full range (the 6.5) and the other is a tweeter which is getting a high pass from the crossover built into the amp. Yes you should have an amp behind the spare tire. If you are using full range speakers for your doors then you will want to use the leads that fed the big speaker not the ones for the tweeter. If you want to add a tweeter to the door then use the tweeter channel.

P.S. the rear seat speakers are SUBS! Yes folks they are 6.5" subwoofers, and they are tied into the same rear channel as the trunk speakers only the crossover is set to send them the low pass signal only. If you put full range speakers here you will not be able to hear them with out changing the pinouts on the amp's plug. I did this to my car and it turned out great.

Thanks for the info on the SGS switch.
As for the speakers, I haven't checked yet to see if there is an factory amp. I assume it's located where the spare tire is? Then I also read that its behind the backseat panel under the speaker, which I hope isn't because that's going to be more of a hassle.
If there are 2 speakers up front per side, where is the other one located at? (The tweeter)
And, I plan on running aftermarket coaxils (full range) speakers for the front doors & backseats. Should I just run all new wires from the speakers to the headunit and just bypass the amp, or can I use that amp for the speakers? If so, how did you (Massey) "changing the pinouts on the amp's plug." ??

I ripped up a little piece of the cloth on the door speakers and noticed the tweeter is built on the speaker. Duh! I should have known that. So that's covered.
I tore open the trunk panel and found the Delco factory amp. This is my first time messing with factory amps so I have no clue how to work these, unless they are identical to aftermarket amps.
What my plan is, I was just going to replace the speakers and use the wires that's already there so I can power them off the factory amp since it's there and might as well use it. Plus, the thought of running all new speaker wire from the speaker to the headunit makes me
Now, the only thing that's keeping me back right now is what Massey said about the backseat speakers being on low pass signal. Is there a switch on the amp that will let me get full range?
Thanks for the replies.

Thanks Massey!
I worked on the amp pins earlier and got them all switched over and it works! I actually had to use that wiring diagram you sent because I didn't realize there were more than 1 dark green wire (3 that I saw) and 2 tan wires. Like you said, it was pretty easy, just a pain. I've learned so much on this forum in a small period of time, so thanks to everyone who has ever given me info on something. Hopefully I can learn more from you guys as time goes by. (Hopefully I won't be posting no engine/tranny question problems for a long time. Ha ha.)
Thanks again.
