Sandblasting the intake won't hurt a thing. Just be sure to clean the thing out completely.
For reference, starting in 1992, Chevy no longer installed an oil cooler on the Corvette, because the Vette LT1 engine came delivered with Mobil1 in the pan. Chevy also recommended continued use of Mobil1. It's your call, but if the cooler isn't giving you problems, I would keep it.

To answer you last question: if you're planning on doing heads and cam don't worry about getting a new tune on your chip. If you're done modding you could make some extra power with a new tune.

k gonna wait on the chip. maybe when shes layed up in the winter ill spent the $$$ on some head work.

mobile1? how bout pennzoil cheap stuff for initial then quaker state synthetic both 5/30 and were on sale. one had horse power in big letters written on the label! ha.decided to leave the cooler off. not sure if i should plug the lines at the sources, (rad and pump i think...man, been so long since i had this apart, bout week 7) or to just run a straight tube/pipe to loop em as in loop the input to the output of where the cooler would normally be. thx.
