Exclamation 1998 Camaro Turn Signal Causing Dashboard Lights to Blink

Hi all! My Camaro has an issue with the dashboard lights blinking when the turn signal is on. I replaced the turn signal flasher - I heard that there were two, but only found one. There was a second mounting bracket for the second one, but I didn’t see one.

Anyways, when the headlights are on, the left turn signal stays on without blinking. When I turn the right turn signal on though, it will work with the left one staying solid. Whether the headlights are on or off, the turn signals will cause the dashboard, clock, and any interior lights to blink.

I’m not sure where to begin looking for the problem. Any advice?

See video of the problem:

Change bulbs check grounds. Solid not flashing is usually a bad bulb on that side.
Clean up the grounds and use dielectric grease when replacing the bulbs.

Sure sounds like grounds to me also. Most of the time when I get lights doing weird thing it is either a short inside of a bulb or a loose/dirty ground. When power can not find a ground it will back feed through anyplace it can. Indicator lights, relay and other lights in the system. A bulb that is shorted internally can cause power jump from one circuit to another. So one bad light bulb can play havoc with the whole lighting system. Don't be surprised it turn out to be one of the bulbs that is working fine.

Of course it can be a wiring harness and or switch issue but those are much less common. Unless the car has been through a repair or even body work. I have had several times when body men melted or broke wiring harnesses. It was supper common back in the day, the second gens ran the harness right along the rear quarter just above where they would rust. Body man would weld in a patch and just melt the whole harness together. What a mess.

Thanks for the info. On the way to work this morning, it didn’t have the problem until I was about halfway there. On the way home, it didn’t happen at all. I was going to test out the lightbulbs, but difficult to test it when it is working…. It’s strange that it seems to only happen randomly.

@Gorn and @Y2Keglide I think I discovered the problem. Even though it was working fine while I was testing it, I went ahead and checked the front headlights and turn signal lights. I found a melted bulb on the front left side, so I replaced both the front turn signal bulbs. Since I was already outside, I went ahead and checked the back and discovered the back right turn signal bulb was burnt out, so I replaced that too. Unfortunately, I also noticed that my spare tire needs to be replaced which is probably a good thing. We’ll see if it keeps working.
