i have removed the air condition and smog air pump units from my 89 iroc z28 5.7 liter . i need to replace the serpentine belt with a shorter one . has anyone does this mod and can you recommend a part number for the new belt. i know i need to use the tension pulley.

 

there are delete pulleys available as well, but what you can do is cut the belt and place it around the pulleys you want to run and make a mark on it or cut it again. take the belt to the parts store and have them match one up to your new length

 

You can use the cut your old belt way, you could also use a flexible tape measure that seamstresses, or clothing/fabric stores use. When you route it around your pulleys, be sure to have someone pull up on the tensioner to be in the normal position, or your reading will be too long. A portion of the part# on a belt is the overall length measurement.

 

thanks to the both of you. i will use the measurement of the cut belt and get one from the part store.

 

just goto a part store tell them u need a belt for 89 iroc 5.7 no air conditioning and federal type of motor meaning not c.a. or smoggable federal I learned signifies no smog equipment but u might want to see where to relocate tensioner cus a/c versions tension off ac pump.

 

thanks, i'm going to use the bracket where the a/c pump was deleted. i will check on that federal type belt.
