my 89 iroc has this plate welded on the frame under the oil pan location. is this a factory mod for racing or did the previous owner weld this that way. if it's a factory mod why was it done, the frame protects the oil pan.

 

Maybe the 89 is different than the 86 I have but my oil pan was severly dented when I bought the car the oil pick up was bent, not easy at all to remove the oil pan on that car.

It doesnt sound factory to me if it was maybe it was for extra protection from bottoming out?

I dont really know, if I looked at it maybe I would have been able to say more

 

thanks for the reply. i am going to cut it off because i am installing a deep sump oil pan.
