And to the OP, how far below 20 psi does it drop?
^ But...earlier he said it drops to near zero at idle while in gear.
Thanks for all of your help I really appreciate it folks. This depends on how warm the car gets but if I have driven it awhile an the temp is up a little over 180 and I come to a stop it will drop to around like 8 PSI which is what concerned me. I did not notice this when I got the car but the oil was just changed not sure if it made a difference.

My fear is it will take too much money to fix it

what are your plans for the car? If you ever intend to sell it then 8 pounds is a bit on the nervous area for me too and you must fix it. If you just want to run it until the engine completely goes on you then that is an option too. If your plans are to junk this and get a new car in the near future then do nothing (I'm being serious)

Honestly I had a mustang and traded my mustang for this car because I need something with better gas mileage and this car looked alot better then my mustang so I thought I could get rid of it easier for a good gas mileage car. But I am an honest person and would not get rid of it with this problem So I am kind of stuck at the moment.

^ How did the engine in the quote jump from a 305 to a 307? That was a fast engine swap!
