Default Oil gauge needle pointing straight up

All of sudden my oil gauge needle has started pointing straight up as soon as I start up my car and stays up. Tried pulling the needle down with my finger, but it goes back up. I have a feeling that the gauge is gone. Anyone experience something like this...any tips?
1985 Camaro z28 4bbl, manual transmission. I've owned the car since new and have always kept everything working right on it. If it's the gauge, what would be your opinion of a used replacement tach/oil gauge from ebay.

I don't remember whichdirections the oil gage turns on a 85. But what you are experiencing is not likely to be a gage problem, but most likely a bad sending unit, or a wiring problem between the gage and the sending unit. If the gage shows max pressure, theremay an open wire between the sending unit and the gage. Ifthe gage shows min pressure, the wire may be shorted to ground.
