Exclamation Need Help URGENT!

Hi, I have a 1982 Berlinetta. Its an automatic 305.
It will not shift into park. I am leaving it in neutral with the e-brake up. Has anyone had a problem like this? Do i need a new tranny?

Thanks

Is it not shifting into park, or park is not holding? If park is not holding there is a good chance that the parking pawl may have broken. Did you slam it into park while the car was still in motion, or was the car pushed around while in park? If it actually does not go in park, it may be a shift linkage problem.

It was not slammed into park while in motion. I was at a complete stop and it wouldn't go into park. I muscled it into park and then the rpm jumped from 750 to 1500. It is extremely hard to shift into park and when i do the shift ***** button will stay depressed and be almost impossible to ring back into other gears.

get underneath and find out if it will go into park using the lever on the tranny. It might just be a cable issue. But, you must begin the process of elimination

K I adjusted the lever from underneath, it went into park. Everything is fine now, except I have to push forward to release the lock on park. I dont mind that so its perfect now!
Thank you guys so much.
