Default rear end help! urgent!!!

Hello! Im building a 70 and its time for the rearend. I currently have a rebuildable 8.2 but I was hoping for an 8.5! I have a line on a camaro that's been left for about twenty years. Not sure of the year but I know its between 74 and 81. Can't get a look at the vin or really anything yet. I was just wondering what rearends came with the 74-81 camaros. Did they still have the 8.2 or did they only have the 8.5 or 12 bolt?

Thanks for the help. This things on craigslist so time is of the essance

So if its original there's no chance it could be an 8.2? This lady knows nothing about her car and its been abandoned for quite a while. Its kind of a long drive to make just for a rear end that I already have

There's only one other 10 bolt that is a bolt in, and not a 8.5", and that would be the 1970 Camaro 10 bolt. Chances are slim that someone changed the rear axle and found a 1970 to use, but it's not impossible.

Good point BB427,
could get lucky and it will be a 12 bolt..
what I am thinking though is if the people have no idea then you pretty much have to go and see it.

Yep, if you want something bad enough you gotta take your chance and make the drive. I've done some long drives on wild goose chases, so I know what can happen if you really have the need!

since there's a rear end post here, thought i'd ask instead of starting my own thread, i'm picking up a 350 to swap out my old 305, after alittle decoding my rear end is 2.41:1 10 bolt, which i believe is stock on my lt, should i even use this rear end or start looking for a 373 posi or something else?
