Hello, I have a 89 5.7 TPI that has lost its pulse..... The car was running fine, I turned it off and installed a aftermarket tach.....Won't Start-No pulse.

Replaced: ECM

Checked:

1. have 7 ohms at key, and under dash for the VAT system
2. have 50 p.s.i. fuel press at rail
3. have spark, (Great from coil to dist, not so good from dist to plugs) New cap, rotor, wires, plugs.
4. starts w/starting fluid but dies when the sprayed is gone.

Please help!

 

Have you checked the injector fuses? Apparently your improvement has something to do with it, may want to recheck your work or go back to original state.

 

Took tack out - same problem, i've noticed i'm not hearing my fuel pump now, it was loud b4 and made some weird whining sound when close to empty. i got nothing, starts w/ starter fluid but dies.... sounds like the pump finally went.....but if the pump is bad would it cause the injectors to loose electrical pulse????

HAHAHA.......Its the pump, after messing with it for an hour this morning, i heard the pump again, and it fired right up.....turned it off and tried again- No pump=No start. Thanks for your help....and have a great Friday the 13th........off to work on the car.
