Default Oil pressure issue

Hey I got a quick question. My oil pressure starts dropping once the car gets warmed up. It eventualy goes all the way to 0 if I keep driving. I was thinking bearings but just wanted some opinions.

If your oil pressure really goes all the way to 0, you should start to hear some clanking and then a sudden thud when the engine locks up. It could be that your oil pressure switch is bad, and telling the gauge to lie to you (they can be mean that way). Pull the electrical plug from the switch and see if it's coated with oil. That's a big tip-off that the switch would be bad, but not a necessary sign. Having had more than one go bad on me, I'd suspect the switch first. You could also temporarily hook up a mechanical gauge to double check your true oil pressure.

I'm using a mechanical gauge and it doesn't drop completely to zero but stops around 5 and it loses power as it goes down.

For $30 you can another oil pressure gauge from autozone or thats how much it costs here. But if your oil pressure was truly at 0 it wouldn't come back up when the engine is cold plus you wouldn't have a running engine if it is at 0.

Where you have the mechanical gauge hooked up? I once had a leak around my sending unit causing a false low reading. Double check your connection isn't leaking at all. It wouldn't suprise me if you have a high mile engine and a low viscosity oil to see a hot pressure under 10psi though.

I checked it's not leaking but idk maybe the gauge is broken. The engine doesn't have high miles either it was rebuilt before I got it and I've put less then 1,000 miles on it. So that's why I thought this was weird.

I'll prob just get a new gauge and some heavier oil and see if it changes.

You could do that. But what I would do is try another gauge, and if that doesn't help, put in some heavier oil!
Seriously though, you have engine problems if your oil pressure really is that low.
