86 iroc tach problem

my tach is reading way to high, it works but when im 3000 its showing 7000 , works but way to high , Maybe the tach bad?,, its a 5.7 and has the bulky hei dist.

Check the tach filter, ive seen those wire deteriorate and cause bad readings.
