Default Purpose of wires on carb heat shield

I'm trying to reinstall a carb on an '83 Camaro (V6, 2.8L), and the rebuild kit included a heat shield gasket for the connection from the engine block to the carb.
But the original has two wires running into it, with a white plastic grid, and the new one doesn't. I found a replacement online (AC Delco Carburetor Heat Shield), but it's $90. The old heat shield gasket is in pretty bad shape. Can I just replace the old heat shield gasket with the one from the rebuild kit, and just tape off the two wires?
Thanks!
