Default 92 camaro rs starter issues.

Hey everyone. I’m very new to the camaro world.

Ive started a project with my dad with this 92 camaro rs 3.1l v6

i finally got it to start and i can hear that the starter is staying engaged. As soon as i put power to the battery(because it’s dead) with a jump box the starter immediately started turning. I put the key in the ignition and turned it to the second pissition and it started. But the starter stays engaged.

Please help. Thanks I’m advance

ps. Looking to purchase a good book with as much info possible that me and my dad can purchase.

Your symptom reads like the starter drive is jammed onto the flywheel.
You might loosen the starter and listen for the drive to retract.
If so, starter may need a shim, can be bought at any parts store, and shim out the starter for a better engagement.
Or, starter relay may have control power going to it all the time, meaning some thing is powering the starter relay.
You can unplug the relay and listen for retraction.
Might pick up a Haynes manual for the make/model for assistance.
