I have a 91 RS that when I go to start it is grinds on the flywheel.
I pulled the shroud down the other day and saw that is has started to round the teeth on the flywheel. My friend took my starter out when we put my trans in and I didnt watch him put it back in. Is there some shims that I might be missing or could the bendex just be going bad on the starter. It doesnt do it all the time just sometimes.

Did you take the fly wheel off when you took the tranny out if so you might have put it on backwards there is a offset on the flywheele.

 

If shims were used, they need to be put back othewise the starter will not engage proerly.

 

Like z28Pete Stated if shims were used then put them back on, you will ruin the starter or even the flywheel. If you have a local AutoZone they can test your starter whiles if off you car for free.

 

Fix it asap because you could crack the block if the starter is moving aroundin there
