Starter grinding need some advice
Finally got all the electrical working and now the dang starter is grinding kept shimming it but it made no difference it kept grinding. So i took it off and found the gear in the starter was messed up and misshapen. Warrented it out at the parts store and got me another this time i used the tool with it too measure the starter from the flywheel put one shim in and it cranked right up. Now that I have ran the break in on the motor i cranked it up and it is make that awfull noise again the clank and grind. Should I add another half shim to tighten it up? Why is it doing this when the first time I cranked it she sstarted up so pretty??

Have a look at the flywheel, does it look like the starter is not fully engaging the teeth to start it? Could it be that the shims you are adding are actually moving the starter too far away causing it to not fully engauge?
You mention that you could add a shim to tighten it up, it seems to me if you add a shim it would increase the tolerance not decrease it.

That's what it sounds like to me too. If the gear mesh is too loose, you want to shim between the outboard mount only, to rock the starter closer to the flywheel/flexplate.
Shimming under both mount points will drive the starter further away. Too loose, and too tight of a mesh have two different distinct sounds. Hard to describe online.

Sorry for the late reply been busy with college. Pulled off the starter and discovered the teeth were completely warped on it took it back and the parts store replaced it. Slapped the new one on had too add 2 shims but it works perfectly now.
