When you say it that it kicks in is it because you are flooring the acclerator or just after awhile of not accelerating very well the car jumps forward?

im flooring it..first mechanic said it was bad timing but he didnt have a timing gun then the second mechanic checked the timing and said it was good, and he put a new fuel filter on it and still nothing so he said the fuel pump is bad

My car had a somewhat similar problem except that I was idling in the 25k area and it didn't matter how hard I put my foot down it wouldn't give me any acceleration. Not sure if your's is related (and I'm not thinking it is) but you might want to check your wiring. My car need to have part of the engine harness rewired as some of it was bad and it was going to ground. Or thats what the mechanic that I finally broke down and took her to said.

I'm going to swing by my mechanic's shop tomorrow and if you haven't gotten any other ideas I'll toss this at him, he owns a third gen as well, and see what he has to say about it.
