Will this wheel/tire combo work?

Will this wheel/tire combo work?
I currently have 16x8 inch rims. (stock size)
Front - 245/60/16
Rear - 255/55/16
I have been looking around at wheels, and all the good looking ones are 15inch. I noticed they are really wide, and I want wider tires on the back of my car. (without the bulge)
Can I go to 15 inch rims no problem? Also, what is the widest tire I can get up front and in rear? What is a good width to go with? 15x9, 15x10, 15x12?
I've been thinking about this setup:
BF Goodrich Radial T/A (I like that classic look)
Front - 255/60/15
Rear - 275/60/15
Will my car be able to run these tires, safetly? Help will be appreciated, thanks!

RE: Will this wheel/tire combo work?
For my camaro I've been thinking 15x8's all the way around, with 245/60/15's in the front and 275/60/15's in the rear. According to jegs, the BFG radial T/A in the 275 series width can fit on a 7.5-9.5" rim, with the 245's to be used with a 7.0-8.5" wide rim. IMHO, anything wider than a 9" rim would be overkill in the back, price wise I would stick with a 8" rim. What kind of rims were you thinking?
