Default What's My First Step?

I have a 91' RS that has been sitting for over 5 yrs in a barn and naturally won't start. Things i've already done: change oil, new spark plugs, new battery. The problems i have are: no fuel coming out of fuel lines and can't hear fuel pump turn on (obviously need a new fuel pump). Also the ACC fuse keeps blowing as soon as i try to replace it, a hurst shifter was installed by my dad when i was 16 and before it was parked the reverse lights would be on when driving down the road. so my questions are simple can my fuse problem be because of the shifter being installed wrong, and also WHERE THE HECK DO I START? i know very little about cars so any advice is a major help

ACC fuse, is the cigarette lighter pushed in, if so remove it and I bet your fuse popping stops. As for fuel pump, check the fuse and the relay before you rip the tank out to change the pump.

check over all the fuses with a test light so you could eliminate that as a problem. there is also a way to jump the relay and such and send power directly to the fuel pump using the aldl (the plug under the steering wheel, near the fuse panel) search for fuel pump test, you should be able to find which pin it is. chances are the fuel is completely varnish now. i would advise dropping the tank to clean it out. with the tank out, you can try to blow clear the fuel lines with a combo of parts solvent or brake cleaner and compressed air. make sure they are disconnected to allow the crap to blow out. also replace the fuel filter. i would suggest changing the fuel pump anyways, and make sure you buy a quality one. also check over the wiring to the fuel pump

take the top end apart and clean it all up and put all new gaskets (barns have a s**t load of dust, and while your under the hood check for a nuetral safety switch it might not be hooked up which would cause the reverse lights to stay on (maybe its diff on 3rd gens). you can put an external electric fuel pump, but first make sure there is no rodents living in the exhaust, change all fluids and filters, get the car running then work on your brakes, make sure the lines are good and everything is working proper, then work out your little probs while its driving.
