Default what tranny

I almost feel that as I start to build the replacement engine trans and rear for my camaro that i need to build everything around my tranny not around my engine.. it will be carb and i am going to hope for something mean like 400 to 500 ft/lbs.. To my knowledge a newer say t56 wont mount an older 350 block and so on. so to determine my block purchase and would like some of you guys ( who have tried ) certain tranny's that will handle the power reliably give me some ideas. auto is an option but i do see more auto cross than drag for this.. so if you have tried ie.. nash 6 speed, borg t56 newer and so on what everyou guys have tried and let me know how it went or any rec's for me. Maybe there is an older trans that build up is better?? id duno

OOpppps.. I meant this to be in previos screan posts... i wont repost to keep you all satisfied...

to add to my previous in all likely hood an engine built for that much power will only have 350 to 400 ft/lbs due to the fact i live at 6500ft + above sea level. it blows me away how much power i gain on my way back to california to visit in my blazer vortec. its estimated all vehicles loose 25 to 30% of power up here.. I am finding ways to combat that with supercharger/turbo setups. so a trans that can handle that would be great does anyone know what a t56 is rated at??

heres a link to the t56 http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English/products/T-56.asp
however i do believe that all years of 262-400 engines are the same block, its just heads and accessories that differ. if your concerned about breaking a trans you may want to look into the Tremec TKO 600 http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English/products/TKO.asp. alot stronger and more versatile than the t56 only its a 5 speed. but you will never break it. and if you have a hydraulic clutch, lakewood bellhousing number 15020 will fit the 350 to TKO and has a slave cylinder mount. hope this helps

guarenteed you wont break the TKO, it'll handle more torque than its rated for. i'm not sure about the t56, but the tko is cheaper than the 6 speed and has a one piece countershaft, the likelyhood of you breaking it with any less than 800 lb.ft of torque is unlikely. you'll burn out your tires and rear end before you break the tko
