Default what engine?

I have an 87 Z28, has a 030 over 350 small block, but the PO said it isn't the original engine. I want to buy parts and upgrades for the engine to create more power eventually, but I have no idea how to figure out what engine I have. All the parts shops around here want to know what car the engine originally came out of but I have no idea how to find out... please help

thanks in advance

was able to find the casting number on the back of the block it's 14010207... google-ing it just tells me that it's an 80-85 Chevy 350 4 bolt main out of a truck... other than that i cant really find out much more...

it will have a one peice rear main seal and is made in the usa. should be good to build up to 400 without any issues. i just had one myself inspected by a sprint car engine builder, they arent good for hardcore racing as they dont have much nickel. just quoting him. but it is a good bottom end to work with
