Default TBI to carb?

Alright, well I was just at my sisters new house for easter and in the garage somebody left a 305 for dead, it looks like they were redoing it or something and then forgot about it. But anyways, theres a Rochester Quadrajet and an intake...how hard would it be to put this on my 91 305...and would it be worth it at all?

Well you'd have to pull off all the tbi equipment(intake,tb,air cleaner, wiring harness, computer, distributer and wires), then u'd put the new intake on and the carb. Use the old air cleaner if you can. As far the computer goes, carb. doesnt use computers; having said that you would have to pull out the tbi wiring harness, distributer and the computer itself. Instead you would have to get an HEI distributor. I'd expect anywhere from 10-20 hp gain. Its up to you if you think its worth it all you have to buy is HEI distributer and some new wires. But its a little bit of work, but not too tough.

ive considered going to carb myself. However i didnt stumble across the most expensive parts like yourself. Youll need a fuel pressure regulator. Preferably with a return to bring less wear and tear to the pump. There isnt just a whole lot of get up and go available from the ol 305 unless you wanna spend some bucks and time on it. Plenty of people here have. So they can tell ya exactly what they have done. But when it comes right down to it, if your looking for power, save up your pennies and get a 350... Thats my opinion. Yours may differ.

You would also need a unit to control your transmission if you have an automatic. But before you get your hopes up. Look at the center intake bolts on your TBI. They may be at a different angle and the carbed intake might not bolt up.
