Default The Carb

hey,
i have a 1989 Camaro RS, with a 305 and two barrel carb. But the problem is only one barrel is functioning. I replaced the barrels 3 times, left the last one in a bucket of gas for one day, and still it doesnt work. I had the fuel pump replaced about 8 or 9 months ago because it just didnt work at all so im guessing its either the fuel pump was put wrong or its the fuel lines. Any help would be aweome, thanks.

FYI- Iroc steering wheel is the way to go.

Why do you have an 89 with a 2bbl carb? Is it maybe throttle body injection? One injector not working it may be bad. Does it look like this?

That is throttle Body Injection. Try swapping the connectors from one side to the other. If the one side that works operates the other then the problem is not an injector. Check the wires under the air cleaner. Sometimes they get pinched and cut.
That would be the wires that come from the injectors and travel down under the air cleaner.

That's a TBI, and those are injectors. There's no 89 carbed Camaro from the factory.Your computer may not be signaling the injector, or the signal may not be reaching it. check all your wiring. Since you have one good injector, I would check that first, and compare readings of that circuit to the dead injector and see where it's faulting. Or do what Mike said first, then try mine, failing that.

I think the previous owner changed engines but im not 100%.
But if you want I can take a picture of the Carb to confirm but im almost certain that my carb is exactly like that of the picture.
actually I did switch wires and the car actually reacted better to the change. The car doesnt give me hell anymore when I try to turn it on. but the same bbl isnt working.

if you switched wires and that same one still wont work then I would say its a bad injector. I think an injector is like about $70 each at autozone.

Well, I just found another reason to hate Haynes. I was going to look at a wiring diagram for the thing for you, but the only manual I have is a moldy old Haynes POS, since my chiltons is with the car 50 miles from here. There's no wiring diagram for the TBI fuel system.Do you know how the injectors ground, Mike? It should be through the wires, right? I had a theory, but it probably doesn't work. That the injectors might be an engine ground, but I don't think so, given the two wires for each one.Maybe the connections on one of them aren't clean? It's also possible that there's a clog in the fuel line right before the injector. And it's still a TBI, not a carb.

Ok, well i did replace the injectors 3 times, and same thing all three times. Im guessing a valve in the fuel lines may be clogged and blocking gas or the fuel pump wasnt installed right. But both wires are working fine because the car did start after switching both times, even though the gas pick up wasn't too good on one of the wires. Thanks for the help, i was hoping i can get the car fixed on my own but i think its best to take it to a mechanic.

The computer signal is the ground. The other wire would be hot with the key on.
He posted he swapped connector from one side to the other and the same injector that did not work first still did not work. At least that is what I got from it.

And haynes, yeah, I got a book for the wiring on a 97 Astro van for the swap into an 84 S10 I am doing. It gives "typical wiring". Aoint nothing typical on a 97. If it was a 57 then maybe. I will not even allow haynes the pleasure of cleaning my *** like tiolet paper.
